Tim is a native and resident of Broomfield, Colorado, where he and his wife Shelley raised their two grown children.  He is a founding shareholder of the Schafer Thomas Maez PC law firm, specializing in sophisticated estate, business, charitable and tax planning for individuals and entities.  Tim previously was a tax specialist for the international accountancy firm of KPMG Peat Marwick in Los Angeles, California, and worked for several prominent law firms in California and Colorado.  He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Accounting from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and his law degree is from the University of San Diego, California.

Tim has served many non-profit boards and committees, and professional associations and memberships, including the Planned Giving Committees for the Colorado Chapter of the National MS Society, the Broomfield Community Foundation, TRU Community Care (formerly Hospice of Boulder and Broomfield Counties), the Colorado Conservatory of Dance, the Alliance for Choice in Education, and the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development corporation.  Tim was a member of the Planned Giving Roundtables of Orange County, CA, and Denver, Colorado, and several estate planning councils.  He is also a member of the tax, business, and estate planning sections of the Colorado and California Bar Associations. Tim himself is a shareholder, member, and director of several closely held and family businesses, and was an advisory board director for Guaranty Bank & Trust (now Independent Financial Bank, a division of publicly held Centennial Bank Holdings).

Tim enjoys all things outdoors, including mountain and road cycling, and snow skiing and boarding.  He frequently attends and sometimes participates in musical instrument performances, playing brass and string instruments.
