About Coppélia
In Collaboration with Ballet Ariel
Coppélia is a comedic ballet about Swanilda, who discovers her fiancé, Franz, is infatuated with a lifelike mechanical doll named Coppélia, crafted by the eccentric Dr. Coppélius. After sneaking into his workshop and realizing the truth, Swanilda disguises herself as the doll to teach Franz a lesson, ultimately saving him from the lonely inventor’s magical schemes and securing their marriage.
Our dancers have been working with incredible dedication to bring Coppelia to life this spring. This charming full-length classical ballet is filled with humor, heart, and vibrant storytelling — and it showcases the artistry and growth of our students at every level.
This year, we are especially excited to collaborate with Ballet Ariel, a distinguished local professional ballet company.
Couple of our own CCD faculty members — including Charlotte Meilaender and Antonio Houck— perform with Ballet Ariel, and we are proud to share the stage with them on May 1st.
This partnership provides:
– Professional mentorship for our dancers
– Elevated artistic standards
– A meaningful bridge between training and professional performance
– A celebration of Colorado’s ballet community
In addition to performing with CCD on May 1st, select advanced CCD students will have the opportunity to perform in additional Ballet Ariel performances — an extraordinary experience that deepens their training and expands their professional exposure.
This collaboration reflects CCD’s commitment to preparing dancers not only for strong technique, but for real-world artistic engagement.
