Better Lives Through Dance Project 2020
September 26, 2020
At Colorado Conservatory of Dance, we unleash individual potential and invigorate community through dance. And we truly believe in a better life through this art form.
During these difficult times, though, it’s become more challenging than ever to engage in our mission as we face barriers none of us could have anticipated a short six months ago–but thanks to incredible creativity and innovation from our staff and faculty and staunch support from our families and other stakeholders, we keep dancing. Our home facility in Broomfield, usually bustling with hundreds of dancers each day, is forced to operate at a fraction of its capacity–so we designed hybrid and online programs to allow students to continue their training wherever (and sometimes whenever!) they may be. Our signature community education programs such as our Move2Learn school partnerships, original anti-bullying ballet tour, and free after-school ballet classes continue–but in a very different way, being delivered online or through video platforms. And where many other organizations have simply canceled their performance seasons due to closed venues and gathering-size limitations–we have incorporated live streaming and video-based performances so our dancers’ work can still be seen and we can share the joy of “live” performance together as a community.
So while CCD continues to do our part, there are simply some things beyond our control. Families are struggling to find a balance of work, school, and down-time–especially those with younger children whose ability to just jump onto a Zoom meeting independently isn’t fully developed yet. And with so much employment and economic uncertainty surrounding them, many have needed to curtail their activities beyond the absolute essentials. As a result, CCD has seen a significant drop in our enrollment since the COVID-19 pandemic’s onset in March. As we rely heavily upon tuition revenue to continue our classes, pay staff and faculty, and perhaps most importantly bring dance into our community, we are facing unprecedented threats to our operations.
This year, we’re not simply asking for your support so we can grow our programs–we’re asking you to help us weather the storm so we can come out on the other side healthy, sustainable, and ready to work harder than ever to live up to our mission.
Please consider contributing whatever you’re able, and sharing this campaign far and wide among your own families, friends, co-workers, or (dads, talking to you here) fantasy football leagues. If enough people take an interest and make a contribution, we can continue to support our dancers–wherever they may be–without having to make the drastic cutbacks already undertaken by so many other nonprofit arts organizations.
We appreciate your support more than you know, and we’ll always strive to earn it and make you proud.
Thank you, friends.
